Know-How

Dental floss and tape are valuable partners to complement daily tooth brushing. They are used to remove plaque thoroughly yet gently from the interdental spaces. There is no ideal floss which is suitable to all consumers and patients. While some dentists prefer unwaxed nylon tape, others favour easy-gliding PTFE tape, and others again favour PE tape or floss. We have made thorough investigations with dentists to elaborate product range and positioning of the various flossing products. We will be happy to share this know-how with our customers and give advice on product range decisions.

Technology

Most floss available nowadays is coated with dry substances like flavour or active ingredients. The release of such substance occurs only through the contact with saliva, but since saliva is scarce between teeth, there is no great release of medicating substances. In contrast to it, we offer floss that releases active substances and flavours completely. This is done by adding a gel-like base that humidifies the fibres permanently and easily dissolves in the oral cavity.

Customising

Main emphasis is put on the individual customisation of the products, depending on the specific needs of the customer and the relevant market. After having chosen the type of floss and the indication, the priority is to create a product suitable to the market.

The floss types

The most common material for dental flosses is nylon, which can be waxed or left unwaxed. With nylon, various additional options are available to add benefits to the product, such as flavours or active ingredients. Besides nylon, easy gliding PTFE tape is popular in certain markets. PE is also coming up and becoming popular with both users and dentists. A new dental floss material is polyester. Nylon, PTFE, PE and polyester flosses can be combined with flavours and active ingredients. The stability of the product needs to be confirmed by stability tests for each new combination of coating and material.
